Best Beaches on the East Shore
Want a chill beach day? Traveling with small kids and want a safe place to enjoy the ocean? The East Shore has some great family-friendly beaches.
Best Beach Day: Kalapaki Beach
Kalapaki is one of our favorite beaches to spend the day. The waters are reasonably protected, giving you a milder surf along the eastern side, with more surf on the west side, where you’ll find surfers and boogie boarders. The sand is narrow but is fronted by some soft grass and plenty of palm trees for shade. Keep in mind that the Marriott resort owns a number of lounge chairs along the grass, so don’t take one if you’re not a guest.
Beach rentals available
You’ll find chairs, umbrellas, surf boards (and lessons), SUPs, and kayaks available for rent.
Parking
Parking can be challenging, especially if you arrive late in the morning. If you’re luckly, you may find a spot in the mall lot on west end of beach behind the Anchor Cove shopping center. Follow signs ro Duke’s valet and follow the drive to right across the narrow bridge. Alternatively park at the Marriott, from which you can walk through the lobby or go around on the east side.
Facilities
Facilities inside the Marriott or at the east end of the beach.

Best Beach for Families: Lydgate Beach Park

Lydgate is the best beach on Kauai for families with small children. The beach is protected by a rock wall creating a cove that functions more like a pond than the sea. There is decent snorkeling along the wall but the water is often cloudy when we’ve gone so it’s not a top snorkeling spot for us.
Parking
There is also plenty of parking along the beach.
Facilities
The park also has nice picnic areas and a playground and there are full facilities including showers.
